Going to a salon to have wine facial can be exactly what you need to relax and rejuvenate your skin. It can spirit yourself after a long and tiresome week at work.
However, going all the way to a salon and spend a lot of money on something that you could have done yourself for free, can be quite bothersome.
We do agree that there are some facials which should be done by professionals for safety’s sake. But others, like the wine facial, are perfectly easy and cheap to do at home with the same results. You would get the result in a salon for more than double the price.
Wine Facial at Home Step by Step Guideline
Step 1: Cleansing
To cleanse your face you can use your regular, ready-made cleansing cream. If you wish to keep to the wine theme of this skin facial, you can make your own cleanser by mixing red wine and some lemon juice.
This mixture will act as a cleanser and toner and will clean your skin of dirt and impurities. It simultaneously allows your skin to soak up the vitamin C and t antioxidants found in lemons and red wine.
Step 2: Exfoliation
Once again, exfoliation can be done with either a ready-made scrub or a home-made one. Wine facial at home exfoliation can be created by mixing 1-2 tablespoons of red wine with any kind of granular substance such as powdered rice.
Mix the two ingredients together until you get a paste that you can massage on your face to get rid of cellular buildup. When you’re done scrubbing, rinse the face with lukewarm water.
Step 3: Steaming
This step is optional, but if whiteheads and blackheads are giving you a headache you can perform this. You can either steam your face using a facial steamer or apply a warm towel on it to open up the pores and make the extraction of that pore-clogging buildup much easier.
Step 4: Wine Mask
The wine mask is the main step of this facial and it’s incredibly easy to make in your own home. To make the mask mix 1tbsp of honey and 2tbsps of plain unsweetened yogurt with 1-2tbsps of red wine and apply the mixture on your face.
Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water. Another way to make this mask is by mixing 1tbsp of Aloe vera gel and several drops of tea tree oil or any other oil of your choice with 1tbsp of red wine.
And the best thing is, these masks have absolutely nothing in them that can harm your skin, so if you can’t decide between the two, you can just make both and give your skin a double pampering!
Step 5: Toning
To finish off this treatment apply some rose water to your face to clean it from any residue or stickiness that might have been left behind by the mask, and you’re done!
This treatment is absolutely amazing for refreshing and nourishing your skin. Red wine is a natural antioxidant that will nourish and tighten your skin. You will get a better result if you use a microdermabrasion machine at home.
In addition to that, all the other ingredient such as lemon, tea tree oil, aloe vera gel, honey, etc. are natural ingredients that are very mild and soothing to the skin while at the same time they are able to give all the care it needs.
Another fun fact about wine is that wine contains natural anti-inflammatory properties and AHAs which make it a perfect ingredient to add to your skincare routine if you have acne problems. Having said this, we urge you to try this treatment out and see how it will work on your skin.
